Social Innovation Action Literacy

This project is designed as an issue-based, action-oriented study, extending the teaching content of existing vocational high schools and technical colleges. It shifts from a knowledge and skills-based approach to a problem-solving orientation, and from a natural principles inquiry to a social issues inquiry. The goal is to provide students with opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to solve current cross-disciplinary science and technology issues related to society and the environment.

The project execution plan includes integrating the concept of socially innovative, action-oriented courses into existing engineering and management courses, while also developing independent digital course modules to promote interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary education. The former aims to broadly cultivate competencies, while the latter seeks to deepen action-oriented skills. Finally, technology will be used to assist both approaches by providing appropriate reading materials.

Action-Oriented Digital Course Development - ALICE Learning Environment

In collaboration with National Taiwan Normal University, we have developed the ALICE Learning Environment digital platform. We are organizing teacher empowerment workshops and promotional activities, and creating a platform for high school and vocational school teachers and students to exchange their work and presentations.

For vocational institutions, the plan for the first five years will leverage Taiwan Tech’s departmental expertise, integrating resources related to technology, architecture, design, teacher training, and digital talent development. The focus will be on themes such as a sustainable society (e.g., sustainable energy technologies, resource-efficient architecture, smart living design) and educational innovation. Students will be trained to propose and fund social innovation projects on the platform, aimed at solving societal problems. This initiative will later be extended to other vocational institutions.

High School and Vocational School Teachers - Action-Oriented Literacy Workshop

We are focusing on integrating environmental issues into action-oriented lesson plans. The aim is to empower teachers by providing them with the tools and strategies to transform existing courses into action competency-based curricula, fostering a more engaged and environmentally conscious learning environment. This approach not only enhances teachers’ skills but also encourages students to take active roles in addressing real world environmental challenges.
