Abstract

In the vocational education system, in addition to the training of professional knowledge and skills and the development of self-directed learning abilities, fostering high-level thinking skills such as creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking (Creativity, Critical Thinking, Complex Problem Solving, Collaboration, and Communication), as well as teamwork and communication skills (collectively referred to as the 5C competencies), are important educational goals. However, in the traditional vocational education model, the planning and practice of these competencies have not been well implemented. Many vocational educators are even unaware of the purpose and methods for cultivating these skills. Therefore, the objectives of this project are as follows:

  • Establish a Framework and Teaching Strategies for Technology-Assisted Self-Directed Learning and 5C Competencies:
Train vocational educators to develop the concepts and instructional design skills for technology-assisted self-directed learning.
  • Develop a Model for Promoting and Supporting Technology-Assisted Self-Directed Learning and 5C Competencies:
Guide Taiwan’s vocational schools in setting goals for technology-assisted self-directed learning and establish teacher communities.
  • Conduct Professional Development and Instructor Certification for Teachers:
The project team at Taiwan Tech will organize training activities and instructor training related to self-directed learning and 5C competencies, cultivating professional teachers within the vocational system.
  • Facilitate Exchange Activities for the Design of Technology-Assisted Self-Directed Learning and 5C Competencies:
The Taiwan Tech project team, in collaboration with various vocational schools, will provide more opportunities for inter-school exchange through seminars and workshops, promoting the adoption of technology-assisted self-directed learning and 5C competencies across schools.
