Summary and introduction

This study aims to apply the four components of Nonviolent Communication (NVC)—namely observations, feelings, needs, and requests—to guide students in describing what they observe without evaluation, expressing their feelings, identifying the underlying needs associated with those feelings, and making concrete requests. By integrating digital storytelling and digital board games, the study develops a digital platform for social-emotional learning. This platform serves as scaffolding that enables junior high school students to develop skills in emotion recognition, regulation, and expression through reading, gameplay, and hands-on creative activities, thereby enhancing their emotional intelligence and promoting harmonious interpersonal relationships.

“FeelSpace Navigator” is a social-emotional learning platform that offers three main features: Case Studies, Board Games, and Card Creation. In the Case Studies section, students read case scenarios and apply the four components of NVC to develop and continue the stories. In the Board Games section, students play digital board games that incorporate NVC components, familiarizing themselves with the communication process involving observations, feelings, needs, and requests. In the Card Creation section, students design board game cards in various formats to enhance their social-emotional learning performance.
